Earnest J. Clements, Jr.
Academic Scholarship

Ernest J. Clements, Jr. was a 1960 graduate of Alabama A&M University. His studies included Industrial Arts and Social Studies. Ernest spent most of his career working in education and obtained his first job working as a teacher in Vienna, Georgia. Mr. Clements became 1 of the first 5 black teachers to teach at Lithonia High School. When interviewing for that job, the principal at the time told him he would one day be the principal of Lithonia High School. While employed at Lithonia High School, Mr. Clements taught Social Studies, became the Assistant Principal and finally the Principal. He retired with 32 and a half years of service to Lithonia High School. After retiring from a career in education, Ernest Clements became a Georgia Mental Health Counselor where he mentored students who attempted to commit suicide. Ernest Clements, Jr. was an avid supporter of Alabama A&M University and the Metro Atlanta Alumni Chapter. He was instrumental in chapter fundraising initiatives and led many students to choose Alabama A&M University for a secondary education.
The Metro Atlanta Alumni Chapter honors Ernest's commitment to education by sponsoring the Ernest J. Clements Academic Scholarship to support students that attend Alabama A&M University.
