THE CAUSE

In 1875, the Alabama legislature appointed 26 year old William Hooper Councill as the first principal of the State Colored Normal School at Huntsville, which is now known as Alabama A&M University. The school opened on May 1, 1875 with an appropriation of $1,000 in the basement of a Huntsville church. The serene, intimate campus is situated on “The Hill,” only a short distance from downtown Huntsville, the site of the school’s founding.

Since 1969, the Metro Atlanta Alumni chapter has worked tirelessly to promote the University. Our members are committed to ensuring students from the Atlanta area have opportunities to attend Alabama A&M University.

Through your generous donations, we are able to assist students to gain admission and fund their education at Alabama A&M University.

The Metro Atlanta Alumni chapter is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to support the goals and objectives of Alabama A&M University and the Alabama A&M University Alumni Association, Inc.
