In 1998, the Metro Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Alabama A & M University renamed its Scholarship Fund in memory of the late Ernest Clements, Jr.
The chapter funds its scholarships through the Annual Gala.
Ernest was a 1960 graduate of Alabama A & M with a major in Industrial Arts and minor in Social Studies and English. He received his Master's Degree and Educational Specialist Degree from Atlanta University.
He worked in the DeKalb County School System as a teacher and principal until he retired in 1989.
Ernest was particularly instrumental in recruiting high school graduates to his Alma Mater, Alabama A & M University. He worked hard with the Alabama A & M Alumni Committee when planning annual scholarship banquets. He believed in Alabama A&M University and wanted to make sure that many students would have the chance to continue their higher learning at the school that he loved so dearly.
He donated generously to Alabama A & M on a yearly basis and would be very happy to see that this continues. |
