  About Us

Our Beginning
The Metro Atlanta Alumni Chapter was established on January 21, 1973 at Paschal’s Restaurant.

The elected officers were:

            President – J. Lowell Ware

            Vice President – Pauline Washington

            Recording Secretary – Joyce Dumas

            Corresponding Secretary – Delores Cross

            Treasurer – Langston Walker

            Chaplain – Alger Coleman

            News Editor – Ann Davis

            Archivist – Margaret Merkerson (appointed)

A committee was formed to write the constitution to guide our chapter.  This constitutional committee consisted of the following alums:  Thomas Kyler, J. Callaway, Lester Paige, Pauline Washington, Houston Stallworth and J. Lowell Ware.

We have come a long way since 1973 but our purpose has been steadfast.

Our Purpose

We, the graduates and former students of the Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, cognizant of the cultural, educational, recreational, social, verbal and aesthetic and spiritual need for coordination by an organized group, and aware that certain actions and programs may best be promulgated for the unified interest of the University, Alumni, and Student Body through cooperation and believing that these needs are best realized by a formal organization do hereby establish such an organization.
