Communication and Public Relations

Chairperson:  Rachel McWilliams

Our job is to ensure that the Atlanta Metro-AAMU Chapter and its events are publicized and advertised in a positive light. We are responsible for updates to the website, the annual Scholarship Gala Souvenir Book, the quarterly chapter newsletter, the chapter directory and the chapter updates for the National Alumni Association.  Join us as we move our communication medium to the next level.

  1. Hospitality and Courtesy
  2. Chairperson:  McKenzie & Philippa Thomasy
“We work hard so you don’t have too.”  The hospitality and courtesy members are committed to the Chapter’s comfort and relaxation.  We ensure that all the hospitality needs are met and that members utilize the meetings as a social get-away as well as business event.  This may include acting as greeters at our annual Gala, ensuring and organizing refreshments at chapter meetings and providing courtesy note cards and remembrances to members in their time of need.  If you are a dedicated individual with a heart to serve, please join the hospitality and courtesy committee.

Scholarship

Chairperson: Joyce Dumas

The scholarship committee makes certain that all scholarship applicants are treated equitably and that all scholarship by-laws are followed throughout the application process.  Our job is to advertise Chapter scholarship opportunities throughout the Metro-Atlanta area, as well as collect, review and evaluate all applications submitted.  Recipient recommendations are presented to the Chapter for review and awardees are notified annually.  We are actively seeking volunteers for the distribution, review and interview process.

Program Committee

Chairperson:  Trina Nkhazi

We love our job so much we do it for free!  The program committee is responsible for planning and implementing all special events.  This includes the annual Heritage and Scholarship Gala and the National Alumni Conference.  We use our expertise to secure program speakers, entertainment and guests for these events.  We are honored to be entrusted with such a unique endeavor and would be equally honored for you to join our team.

Membership

Chairperson: Freddie Massey

The membership committee is the most important committee in the Chapter.  We actively advertise for membership throughout the entire year and provide the National Alumni Association with the annual chapter/membership roster.  Our duties also include reporting the membership update at the monthly Chapter meetings, ensuring timely updates to the calling post and soliciting old members to rejoin.  If you would like to be a part of a valued core team, contact the membership committee.  We would appreciate your help.

Fundraising/Finance

Chairperson: Kevin Tolbert

The primary objective of the Fundraising and Finance committee is to create operational and scholarship budgets for the upcoming calendar year.  Members of the finance committee include the current treasurer, chapter president, president emeritus and select Chapter members.  Fundraising ideas and events are always welcome. All fundraising ideas are brought to the Chapter for a vote during regular meetings.  Please submit your ideas at the chapter meetings or to the finance committee chairperson.
